Fundraising Quiz Night! And what a great summer!

It has been fantastic to have so much going on at the garden this summer, but before we give a general update, we are excited to tell you about our upcoming second quiz night! Last year's quiz was a fantastic event, with over 100 people attending an evening full of fun and some great quizzing rivalry! It also helped to raise over £1000 for the garden!

After such a successful event, we just had to hold another quiz this year! Here are the details:

Friday 4th October 7pm for a 7.30 start at the Wilfred Noyce Centre

Book Here Now! Tickets £10 (plus a booking fee)

Book as a team of up to 8 people, or join a team on the night

Drinks will be available from the bar, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks

May the best team win!

And here is another date for your diary:

Our garden designer, Karen Blight will be running another of her hugely popular Christmas Wreath-Making Workshops on Saturday 7th December at 10am. We haven't opened booking for this yet, but do hold the date if you are interested and watch this space to book early, as places go quickly!

Garden Update

The garden has developed so well over the summer! The sensory garden, designed by Karen was planted in March and already looks like it has been there for years! The photo at the top of this newsletter shows the new seating areas within this part of the garden, surrounded by such beautiful colour, not to mention the movement of the taller plants in the breeze and the hum of bees that have been attracted to this part of the garden.

Meanwhile, the fruit and vegetable garden has come into its own! It has been fantastic to have the polytunnel available since the start of the season for sowing seeds, potting on and housing plants like tomatoes that love to be under cover, while the raised beds have been so productive in the naturally fertile soil that we've inherited. Volunteers have been going home most weeks with a share of the produce, including strawberries, peas, beans, potatoes, squashes and more! The garden is all about building community as we work together in this space, but enjoying the fruits of our labours is a wonderful added bonus!

Pond Update

Many thanks to Octavius who joined us to work on the pond project in the garden last week. We were lucky to have a gang of workers to help us lay sand, underlay and then place the liner for our large wildlife pond (take a look at the photos below to see what a daunting set of tasks this was!). Octavius is one of 4 firms who have joined Network Rail as partners in their Southern Integrated Delivery project (Sid 020). They are responsible for electrification and plant, hence their enthusiasm for supporting us in the garden while they work on the line that runs through Farncombe.

We are very grateful for their help and look forward to working with them again in the future, and are excited that we are getting ever closer to planting up around the pond and waiting for the wildlife to arrive and enjoy it!
